Guidance Counselor

Dear Parents,

Many of you may not have had a guidance counselor when you were in school.  For those of you who did, there is a good possibility that guidance counselors have different functions than they did ten or twenty years ago.

First and foremost, it is my responsibility to help your child get the best possible education.  A good education not only includes learning to read, write and do math, but also includes learning good social skills.  This means, among other things, learning how to get along with other children, making good decisions, controlling anger, accepting responsibility and being aware of strengths and weaknesses.  Many of these skills are taught at home.  It is my intent to supplement the learning from home through small groups and classroom guidance.

Counselors also help students who are facing particular difficulties.  Family disruptions such as illness, death, or divorce may affect children at school  If your family is experiencing anything out of the ordinary, please let me know.  If I am aware of any special problems your child might be facing, I can observe your child and help both your you and the family with difficulties that might surface.

One of the counselor's major functions is to be of help to the parents.  If you have a particular concern about your child, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the matter.

It is important to remember that when school personnel and parents work together, it is a winning combination for children.  All children deserve to be winners, and together we can help this goal to be realized.

We all know that character education traits such as Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Citizenship, and Caring all begins at home.  With this in mind, visit the website http://www.charactered.net/ with your child.  The username is Lee Primary and the password is Gators.
